You can open a streaming website, Facebook, or YouTube to visit the specific page of the video. In order to start the download, the first step is to look for a video’s URL in the web browser. However, you can shuffle multiple tabs to download and watch videos in the built-in player at the same time. While using the free version of the program, you can’t download multiple files simultaneously. As mentioned earlier, the features have been categorized into four tabs, marked with large-sized icons. YTD Downloader features a simple, easy-to-navigate, and clean interface. Overall, the download and conversion process is simple and straightforward. In order to convert or download multiple files simultaneously, you can upgrade to the Pro version. While YTD Video Downloader doesn’t support batch downloads, you can queue video clips to be downloaded one after another. Here, you can view important information, including file size, name of the video, speed, progress, time remaining, etc. From the ‘Activity’ tab, you can track the progress of downloads. Once you’ve selected the desired quality parameters, you need to specify the download location on your Windows PC and that’s all! The program will then start downloading the video. However, for a faster download and smaller file size, it’s better to lower the selection to ‘normal’ or HQ 360p. If you select the ‘best available’ quality, the program looks for HD 1080p resolution. Your main go-to section will be the ‘Download’ tab, which lets you paste the video’s URL and choose the preferred quality. In the first look, you’ll notice YTD’s four tabs. As such, when you download and install this YouTube downloader, there’s no need to look for a third-party app to enjoy your preferred content. For instance, you can use YTD to convert videos to different file formats or take advantage of its basic editing tools and built-in video player to watch clips. Apart from downloading videos, you can leverage some additional features to make the most of this video downloader.

Instead of aliens, it’s monsters, ghosts, and spirits that we have to deal with. Rather than balls to the wall action, it’s almost a quiet strangeness where it always feels like it’s just about to dip into the bizarre at any moment and remains visually striking throughout. The Monogatari series is strange, but not quite in the same way as FLCL. They probably win for most beautiful on this list. I mean, many scenes could be mistaken for photographs. Directed by Makoto Shinkai, they have some of the most detailed and intricate art I think I’ve ever seen. I’m almost certain that you’ve seen at least one image or gif from one of these films. And it’s all backed by (in my opinion) one of the best soundtracks ever (this is the dub btw) by Japanese rock band The Pillows.Īlso I feel I should note this series does have some fanservice that might be distasteful to some, but its certainly not disgusting or even the worst offender on this list.ĥ Centimeters per Second/The Garden of Words It often devolves into bizarre and avant-garde styles including manga panels and, I kid you not, South Park at one point. There’s aliens, bass guitars, robots, and pyromaniacs and it’s all tied together with a slick style. I don’t really know how else to describe it. Pardon my French, by FLCL (pronounce fooly-cooly) is fucking weird. One of the best shows ever made in my opinion, just take a look at that opening. Criminals run rampant through the solar system, Earth is abandoned almost entirely, and most everyone is either poor, dirty, or poor and dirty. Bebop takes a pretty grounded look at humanity’s voyage into the stars. That gives you a pretty good explanation of the premise but it’s much more than that. After that, cap it off with the concluding movie The End of EvangelionĬowboy Bebop is a western in space. It’s a series that still holds up incredibly well today, go watch it now. Instead, Evangelion favors very strong writing and direction and an intense psychological emelment to stand out more than almost anything else. It doesn’t have any strange style or bright striking colors. But on this list NGE will probably feel the most familiar. I already wrote about Serial Experiments Lain and The Tatami Galaxy in my last post, but I can’t ignore them for this one too.Ī classic. I do expect people will have seen at least a few of these as they’re decently popular (for good reason). Those kinds of shows people like to make pretty gifs of. Not necessarily very fluid animation or pretty backgrounds (though that can play a part), but more about a distinct feel that is hard to find anywhere else. This is going to be all about works with style. After my last anime rec post I thought it might be fun to do something a little bit different. In 1983, Captain Lou Albano met pop star Cyndi Lauper on a flight to Puerto Rico. His cowardice seemed almost inexplicable, and so it was all the more infuriating.Īlbano's career continued along this crowd-(dis)pleasing mid-card path until an odd confluence of events landed him in an unlikely cultural spotlight. There were other mangers who can be said to have worked the routine as well as Albano - The Grand Wizard and "Classy" Freddie Blassie were the other two greats of that period, and they, along with Albano, are referred to as the "Holy Trinity" of heel managers - but Albano's act was an inversion of the usual loud-mouthed-stringbean-manager type: He looked like your tough uncle, like he could actually throw his weight around, and yet he remained safely situated behind his various protégés. He was a jerk, but above all he was a weasel, a guy willing to talk big but unwilling to compete, and that made him truly detestable. He was in some ways the same streetwise bully he portrayed in his earlier wrestling days, challenging his rivals' manhood and hurling decidedly un-PC epithets at the gathered crowds. He became Sammartino's principle foil, despite the fact that he hardly set foot in the ring Albano sent fearsome heels at Sammartino like an ornery god lobbing thunderbolts at antiquity's heroes.Įven as a heel - some would say especially as a heel - Albano was a ragtag supernova of charisma: long, frazzled mane Hawaiian shirts unbuttoned to the navel rubber bands tying off his unkempt goatee and dangling from his ears. It was a convenient storyline for pro wrestling's territorial era: Sammartino was a In his new role, Albano bridged the gap. He dubbed himself "Captain Lou" - a direct (albeit imprecise) reference to Albano's pre-wrestling military career. On the advice of the iconic Bruno Sammartino, Albano made the first significant shift of his career, ending his days as a grappler and refashioning himself into a diabolical manager, determined to dethrone Sammartino and end his years-long championship reign. Never the most talented ring technician to begin with, Albano was nonetheless indisputably good at provoking the fans. The Sicilians had a good run - they even briefly held the United States tag titles in Vince McMahon Sr.'s World Wide Wrestling Federation (the progenitor of the WWE) - but by 1969 they had dissolved their union. This basic equation would repeat itself throughout Albano's career. And it's instructive that Albano so straightforwardly and eagerly became someone else for mainstream exposure. I won't claim to have seen the show, but it's interesting nonetheless that Gleason, in bringing the wrestling world in all its oddity to mainstream culture, chose a young Lou Albano as his shepherd. In retrospect, it's paradoxical that a performer footed in the Golden Age of wrestling would incite its unraveling.Īlbano and Altomare also appeared on a 1963 episode of Jackie Gleason and His American Scene Magazine (aka The Jackie Gleason Show), as professional wrestler Sandpaper Sam Staccato and referee Harry Hornet respectively. And in that way, he kicked open the doors for wrestling's erratic modern era, his dissociative personality spreading to his sport at large. But if Albano can't be defined without some acquiescence to all of these disparate parts - if he's as much none of them as he is all of them - the confusion was largely of his own creation. The popular image of Captain Lou Albano is probably a crude amalgamation of the first three the lattermost is certainly the most accurate if longevity - or the opinion of wrestling diehards - is the measure of a reputation. One could forgive a child of 1991 if he were to look at a photo of Captain Lou Albano and say, "That's Super Mario," or a teenager from 1986 if he were to say, "That's Cyndi Lauper's dad." Similarly, one could forgive a late '80s wrestling fan if he saw Albano only as a buffoonish torchbearer for the good guy wrestlers, or an older wrestling fan if he knew him only as a loudmouth heel hypeman. Down a small ramp/steps and you magically appear in a large room, beautifully appointed, complete with several fireplaces. The SideDoor of the restaurant is a nice bar with a few small tables. Thank you for the beautiful experience, Turi, Lazaro, and Chef Luna. I almost forgot about the deserts, Souffle, Crème Brulee, and Sundae, all a must-try. The $65 four-course special was upgraded and was well worth it. All impeccably prepared, delicate sauces perfectly seasoned. Our main courses were excellent, Filet Mignon, Prime Rib, Portobello Steak Neptune style, and the Shrimp Scampi. He kept our drinks filled and the table clear and anticipated our needs. Turi's support staff Lazaro was fantastic, one of the most attentive attendants ever. For starters, we dined on Tempura Vegetables, a charcuterie platter, and Shrimp Cocktail. Turi could get off-menu Shrimp Scampi for my wife, above and beyond. Our waiter, Turi's knowledge of the menu and ability to work us through our preferences was outstanding. Arriving early, we were greeted by two delightful attendants at the reservation desk - they graciously assisted us to our table. From beginning to end, an outstanding experience. I recommend reservations as they do tend to get busy. We came here for a family dinner on Sunday and were able to get reservations for a party of 5 at 5 pm. In other words, when you enter the duration, nothing appears on screen it just gets held in memory until you then enter a note. If you're not a Linux user, that might not make much sense, but you can also think of it as one of those self-tripping Caps Lock keys on a mobile touchscreen you press it once to enter CAPS mode, and then hit a key to get a capital letter, after which CAPS mode gets turned off. The duration entry of a note gets treated as a "dead" key, like the Compose key when entering Unicode characters, or c-x and m-x in Emacs. Durations values start with the 1 key (a 64th note) and continue up to 7 (a whole note), with 8 being the less common double whole note, and 9 being the rare longa. The first value you enter is the duration. You can enter or leave note entry mode by pressing the n key on your keyboard at any time. This is the default mode, so you're probably already there to verify, look to see if the N button in the upper left corner of the MuseScore window is highlighted. To get started, you need to be in notation entry mode (not just mentally, but in the software). Entry mostly centers around the number pad, arrow keys, and the letters A through G. I make it sound a lot scarier than it really is the good news is that the most commonly used entries are intuitive and easy to remember. As with Emacs or Blender, much of the entry consists of a sequence of key presses rather than single keys. Like playing the other kind of keyboard (the musical one), it takes practice to get all of the keyboard shortcuts down. It's work enough to compose a coherent piece of music, and more work still to arrange it for different instruments, so if you have to add the overhead of data entry into that mix, it changes from being a labor of love to just being, well, labor.įor that reason, the most common method of editing musical scores is keyboard entry it's the most flexible and efficient way to get data into the computer. Keyboard entryĪs any composer knows, the barrier to actually setting music down to paper is efficiency. There are toolbars and palettes and menus to give you access to every minor detail you could ever possibly want to enter into sheet music.īut that's not usually how it's done in the real world. It works exactly as you'd expect select a note, point to the place on the staff that you want it to go, and click. If you're just starting out, you can use the mouse to input notes. On the left are palettes providing access to special musical elements such as glissando notation, fermatas, dynamics, repeats and codas, and so on. The main work area is the sheet music itself, where you draw the notes (which are listed as clickable icons across the top toolbar). MuseScore's workspace is pretty intuitive, regardless of your musical knowledge. That must mean it's time to start inputting music. Once you've stepped through the setup screens, you're left facing blank staves. All settings you choose here can be changed later, so no pressure to commit to anything. The new project wizard steps you through creation of a new project you can start from scratch or you can use a template. To begin an empty project, select File | New. The demo piece is a good example of what's possible with MuseScore, but the best way to learn it is to use it, so let's start a fresh project. If you want to open to an empty project, change that behavior in Edit | Preferences. When you launch MuseScore, it loads an example piece by default. If you can't find one, look for the other. On Linux, it's available from your repository (or for us Slackware users).Īfter installation, MuseScore may be listed as mscore, depending on how you have your desktop configured ( mscore is the name of the executable, but many desktops list it by its description text, MuseScore, in application menus). MuseScore is a cross-platform application, so you can download and install it on any computer. As with everything else, this boils down to practice, but even to the uninitiated, MuseScore is intuitive, while also maintaining the complexity required for a professional, readable, musical score. MuseScore is a tool you hope will become so familiar to you that it fades into the background, stays well out of your way, and possibly, on occasion, makes your life easier. MuseScore is to music notation what a word processor is to, say, articles about open source it's the tool that you want to take for granted. Therefore, in an a continuation of an unofficial musical notation series, I present to you MuseScore, the open source WYSIWYG sheet music creation suite. Last month, D Ruth Bavousett wrote about creating sheet music with the Lilypond "music engraving program," and it got me thinking about MuseScore-which she also mentioned in the article, but in passing-and what a powerful tool it is for musical notation. In 2012, we changed focus and concentrated on doing high-volume 5-stem bunches of just our most popular flowers-peonies and lilacs for perennials, sunflowers and zinnas for annuals. Growing acres of perennials and annuals, we sold mixed grab-and-go bouquets as well as wholesale 5-stem single-variety bunches. I grew to love growing and selling flowers over the next few years as we added a huge retailer, a wholesaler, and two farmers markets to our customer list. Some of my flower shop customers suggested I start growing zinnias and sunflowers for them, so I did, not having a clue what I was doing … just a desire to provide for my family. As a side hustle, I started selling single stems of golden Alexanders, blue Baptisia, echinacea, and a dozen other native flowers to flower shops in the Twin Cities. I got a job working for a friend but needed to make more money, and I discovered that nobody was utilizing the native prairie flowers in the cut flower market. In January 2000, I lost my job due to downsizing and I needed to find a way to make an income. I had been growing native prairie grasses and flowers since the early 1990s in order to improve our land for wildlife. I pretty much stumbled into the cut flower world. I’d love to have you share a little about how you started and where you are now. Your flower journey has been a long and winding one. I thought it would be fun to have Steve share a little more about his flower farm, the sunflowers he’s been breeding, and his upcoming seed sale on April 1, 2023. Steve is one of the kindest, most generous people I know and it has been such an honor to get to play a small part in his flower journey. And during the winter months, he shares a lot of really interesting videos about how he utilizes these magnificent birds of prey to combat pests, such as rabbits, on his farm. In addition to being a flower farmer and sunflower breeder, Steve is also a master falconer. After getting to experience Steve’s beautiful creations, it became clear that he was really onto something and we encouraged him to follow the trail so that he could one day release his beauties out into the world. Two short weeks later Steve Kaufer flew out to the farm to meet us and we ended up planting a huge field of his amazing sunflowers to trial here in our climate. His sunflowers were like nothing I had ever seen before and I immediately picked up the phone. The funding brings the total raised by to $60M. San Francisco-based cybersecurity startup emerged from stealth with $35m in Series B funding. Star Trek: Resurgence is being developed by Dramatic Labs, a firm that originated from Telltale Games' former staff's vision to continue building powerful story-driven and often episodic adventures. If anything, it's leaning more towards the same style as Tales from the Borderlands, just with a heavy helping on Gene Roddenberry strewn over the top. So, not just your everyday visual novel with a few branching dialogue options, apparently. And as it turns out, dialogue won't be the only thing you'll have to pick and choose as you unravel its narrative.Īs mentioned earlier, the gameplay will also involve several mini-games, including shuttle piloting, stealth-based encounters, and even intergalactic phaser shootouts. But in spite of our shortsightedness and ability to jump to conclusions, Dramatic Labs has, in fact, pointed out a number of other gameplay features that players can also come to expect on launch day. It makes sense that the former CEO of Telltale Games would want to retain some of the studio's style, which is why we have a vague idea of what the gameplay in Star Trek: Resurgence will entail. Instead, players can expect to flow through one epic journey, all of which will be shapeable and open to interpretation. The only thing it won't have, apparently, is an episodic format. And by that, we're talking countless dialogue options, role-playing elements, and player-determined conclusions. As far what the players involvement in the scenario will be is still anybody's guess, as Dramatic Labs hasn't been overly keen to share.Īnyway, as we're talking about a team that has, of course, already developed something of a niche format, it seems highly likely that the story in Star Trek: Resurgence will be no stranger to it. And so, if we're to go by this, then it's clear that the story itself will be centered around the two warring factions, the Olidians, and the Hotari. “Alongside dialog-driven role playing and rich branching storylines, you will also engage with the Star Trek universe in a variety of other gameplay styles, including shuttle piloting, phaser fights, tricorder scanning, stealth, and micro-gameplay mechanics.” StoryĪccording to Dramatic Labs, the game is set in the immediate aftermath of the feature-length films, Star Trek: The Next Generation, in the year 2380. “Star Trek: Resurgence is a narrative adventure game featuring dialog choices, relationship building, and exploration,” the official website explains. And if you aren't able to construct an image in your head, then read on. Knowing this, and how Telltale typically build their games in a dialogue-focused format, it's safe to say we'll know what to expect come launch day. Star Trek: Resurgence is an upcoming third-person story-driven adventure game by Dramatic Labs, a studio that formed under the wing of over twenty former Telltale Games writers, designers, artists, and producers. But what is this so-called Star Trek: Resurgence we speak of, and how will it connect with The Next Generation? Will it be canon, or will it be something else entirely? Here's everything we know about it so far, including its story, gameplay, platforms, and release date. In a stroke of luck, though, the guys over at Dramatic Labs have made a vow to revive the Milky Way-based IP and transform it into a full-fledged story-driven adventure for next-gen consoles and PC. The company became defunct in 2018.Excluding PlayStation VR's one-and-done Star Trek: Bridge Crew, Gene Roddenberry's sci-fi phenomenon hasn't actually seen the frontline of the gaming community for the best part of a decade now. Telltale produced narrative-based games, including a Back to the Future game and a series of Batman games, where every choice you made affected the way people interacted with your character and the outcome of the game. Throughout the gripping story, players can interact with the Star Trek universe like never before, with moments of authentic action and critical decisions that shape the broader narrative in subtle and unexpected ways.ĭramatic Labs is a video game production company made up of more than 20 writers and designers who once upon a time worked at Telltale Games. Engineering Crewperson Carter Diaz highlights how the mission plays out from the lower decks, caught up in the events in his own unique way. RESOLUTE's First Officer Jara Rydek is part of the diplomatic envoy led by Ambassador Spock that's tasked with finding a resolution – and uncovering the ultimate source of this tense situation. Players experience the conflict and larger mystery from two key perspectives. A worker uprising threatens the tenuous peace between two alien civilizations, and Starfleet is forced to intervene. Star Trek: Resurgence is a bold interactive narrative game set shortly after Star Trek: The Next Generation's timeline. |
